« C'étaient des temps obscurs… Des temps de grandes actions et d'immense érudition, des temps de mal obscène et de folles audaces. Alexandre reflétait son temps. D'un souffle il ordonnait un massacre, d'un autre il honorait une cité conquise pour son entêtement à lui résister. Le feu détruisait d'anciens sièges de civilisation, des sages étaient massacrés, des innocents noyés dans le flot de ses conquêtes.

On cherchait à déterminer s'il était une puissance des ténèbres ou des lumières, s'il allait déchirer le monde ou l'unir dans une paix durable.
